We are pleased to announce that the Hungarian guide is now available in German.

Hungary is one of the most attractive destinations for German expats – not only for its beautiful landscape and culture but also for economic relationships. In addition, Germans have always had a strong relationship with Hungary. Today about 3% of the Hungarian population is German. Some cities such as Hévíz even have a German majority population.

Moreover, Germany is Hungary´s most important trading partner, representing nearly one third of total foreign investments in the country. Nearly 300,000 people are employed by German companies in Hungary.

We are pleased to announce that the Switzerland guide is now available in French. France and Switzerland have a strong influence on one another. The French Swiss are well informed of their neighbour’s internal affairs. Indeed, the TSR (French Swiss TV) is scheduled so as to allow their viewers to watch the French news.

Today 150.000 French expats live in Switzerland. This does not take into account the numerous people who commute every day from France to work in Switzerland. Not surprising really when you think Switzerland has one of the highest cost of living in Europe.

We are pleased to announce that the Turkey Expat guide is now available in German.

Turkey is becoming increasingly attractive to German expats for various reasons. Being one of the most popular holiday destinations for German tourists, many of them fall in love with the beautiful beaches and the friendly Turkish people.

In addition, the Turkish economy experiences a constant growth whereas living expenses and real estate prices are still much lower than in most EU-countries. Germany has been Turkey’s most important trading partner for years and subsidiaries and branches of German companies have sofar increased to a number of 3700 in Turkey.

We´re pleased to announce the launch of our India expatriate guide. It includes information on visas, work, housing, health, and more, making it the perfect resource if you are travelling or moving to India.

In 2000, India’s expatriate community was relatively small with only about six million foreigners living and working in India and migration rates revolving around zero. But since India’s economy is developing at huge growth rates the demand for skilled workers more and more exceeds the number of graduates of Indian universities.

Since English is widely spoken, it may be easier for expatriates to get used to their new lives in India compared to other countries, but moving to India is still a huge challenge. Not only the culture with its caste system is hard to adapt to, but also the sheer size of the country with regulations varying from state to state can be nerve-stretching.

To be best prepared for your move to India our guide will help you with everything you need to consider. And if you still have doubts, or simply want to meet other expatriates, you can exchange ideas or ask for help in our expat community in India.

We are happy to announce the Just Landed community pages are now available in Italian! The language is spoken by over 70 million people around the world and its expat community is one of the largest and most widespread. Of course the old emigration of the past century comes to mind, the typical image of little Italy in the streets of Brooklyn. But far from it, the Italians abroad are a colourful, vibrant and diverse community. Students, unskilled workers, professors, all can be found abroad. And to prove the point, the Italian version of the website is viewed by 120,000 users a month and this without the community part!

So give it a try! Meet new people and other Italians (or not) living the same experience. See how it feels and we would be happy to get some feedback. Buon divertimento!

Comunità adesso in Italiano! Evviva!

Just Landed’s community and services are now available in Danish. We’re happy to make it easier for its 6 million speakers. Big thanks to Cathrine Grage who made this happen. She works with translations from English, German, Dutch and Swedish into Danish on a daily basis, see www.bureaucat.dk and www.cathrinegrage.dk

Some Danish trivia:

Danish pastry in Denmark is called “Wienerbrod”, literally Vienna Bread

It has minority language status in the neighbouring part of German with a small community of speakers

“I fart” means “in speed”, as in moving, apparently this had to be covered up on some elevators when the Queen of England visited…

We’re excited to announce the launch of our Turkey expatriate guide. In our guide we have assembled information on visas, property, health, and more, making our Turkey guide the perfect resource if you are traveling or moving to Turkey.

Turkey was once a relatively poor country with a weak economy, but in recent years it has stabilized its currency and become a tourism powerhouse. According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s statistics, some 14,000,000 foreign nationals either traveled to or lived in Turkey between January 2007 and July 2009.

Foreigners visit Turkey for reasons varying from relaxing in luxury villas along the Mediterranean coast to obtaining state of the art medical care in Turkey’s outstanding private clinics. In addition, expats are retiring to Turkey in ever-increasing numbers. Presently, as Turkey moves forward with a large role in the Nabucco gas pipeline project, its importance to the international community will only grow.

Turkey is undoubtedly different from your home country, and our expat guide will help you organize your move. If you have more questions or want to meet other expatriates living in Turkey, check out our Turkey expat community!

This blog and the Guides part of the site are still on the old look and will change soon. The main objective was to make it easier to use, but we also wanted to make it a little more ‘fun’. Comments so far have been positive, we hope you like it!

As well as a new look, we have also done a lot of work on the underlying code to make it work better. I will spare you the technical details, but this is mainly to get in a better position to improve the current services and add new ones over the coming months. We also have the pleasant problem of more and more people using Just Landed, so are working hard to keep the site quick and responsive.

We are just completing the first stage of this process. It has been a little painful for both our users and us, as our testing did not pick up all of the issues so a few things stopped working properly (sorry if this caught you!). If you see anything wrong, or have any problems, please get in touch.

We finally broke through the barrier of 7million page impressions per month: In July 2009, we recorded a new record of 7.15 million page views, thus doubling our traffic compared to July 2008.

After a disappointing traffic development in spring, growth has now picked up again. This is partially due to some architectural changes we implemented to cope with the increasing server load. As Just Landed continues to grow, scalability of the platform becomes more and more important to guarantee speed of page delivery.

Already of today, Just Landed has become one of the worldwide leading online destinations for people moving countries, making it the platform of choice for expatriate advertising on a global scale. During the last month, we have been working on a complete redesign of the site which will be launched within the next weeks – so stay tuned on upcoming developments! As always, we welcome any feedback that helps us make our site even better in the future.
