Every year thousands of foreigners move to Mexico for a variety of reasons. Some go to Mexico to study, some to work and others simply for the lifestyle. Due to its geographic proximity, Mexico has become increasingly popular with expatriates from the US, many of them looking for a place to retire in the sun. The U.S. State Department estimates that the number of Americans in Mexico has increased from about 200,000 a decade ago to between 600,000 and 1 million today.

Despite its attractions, Mexico also poses a challenge for foreigners: Living in Mexico will probably be quite a major change for you, and becoming familiar with the Mexican mentality and way of life will take some time.
