Top expat countries revealed

Ask any expat and they’re bound to tell you that their country is the best – but maybe sometimes they’re a little biased. But honestly, there isn’t a simple answer to which country is the best destination for expats – in fact, it really depends on what you’re looking for. No, we’re not talking about whether you like beaches or cities (of course, that’s important too!), but about what your top priority is: health care, family, love, the list goes on.

This year’s Expat Insider survey by InterNations has rated…

The happiest expats…

Moving to another country and living out your dream would make anyone happy, but the absolute happiest expats in the world can be found in Costa Rica. With those sandy beaches and blue skies, who can blame them?

The safest expats…

On a primal level, we all crave security, and if the idea of moving abroad makes you a little nervous, perhaps the safe haven of Luxembourg calls to you? If you want to get to know your neighbour, a country with a population of 576,249 definitely doesn’t hurt your chances.

The most welcomed expats…

No matter where you move, it’s always a worry that you’ll remain an outsider. If this a concern of yours, we suggest heading to Mexico and joining in with the fiesta. With a culture rich with celebrations and one of the most spoken languages in the world, it’s no wonder why people feel at ease here.

The most looked-after expat families…

If you’re moving abroad with family in tow and want the best possible family life for everyone, then head north to Finland. Cheap tuition, a helpful government, and plenty of snow days all make for a great upbringing.

The most in-love expats…

They say love isn’t easy, but it must be in Malta, the country with the most amount of expats satisfied with their relationships. Maybe it’s the secluded island setting or those romantic Mediterranean meals, but something about this country makes people more in love.

The overall winner…

Without a doubt, the standout country of this year is Taiwan. Not only did it take the titles of best expat destination and best quality of life – it also bagged the best place for both guys and girls, so if you’re looking for love on your expat adventure, you know where to find it.
